My friend's hamster won't do anything?

My friend went camping for nine days and I'm taking care of her hamster for her. But he won't come out of his cage. He just sits there and he's breathing but she says I have to take him out of the cage at least once a day to roll around my house in his ball. He won't come out. What to I do?
